I am Maria Hammett (they/them), a second-year medical student at the UC Davis School of Medicine. I am one of many alumni of the UC Davis RxOne Health 2023 course. I grew up in Merced, CA and plan to return to the Central Valley as a primary care physician.

My name is Ricardo Rodríguez. I am a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mexico and the General Manager of the NGO Science and Community for Conservation. With a background in Ecology, I am keen on further developing myself as an expert in Natural Resources Management and Veterinary Health. When I learned about the Rx One Health course and took a look at the syllabus, I immediately recognized it as a significant opportunity worth considering.

My name is Kemah Vivian Lymas Tegli.

I am a Liberian living in Liberia. I hold a master’s degree in public health with emphasis in Epidemiology. I currently work for Arica One Health University network on the USAID funded project call STOP Spillover which is a One Health focus.

I am May Thongthum, one of the international participants in the 2023 Rx One Health cohort. I traveled from Florida, USA, to join the program, where I am currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health with a focus on One Health. Originally hailing from Thailand, I was born and raised there. When I applied for this program, I anticipated an intensive yet thrilling journey, brimming with excitement, and learning.

RxOH 2023 Alum: Jessica Watts

My name is Jessica Watts and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Development, Disease Models, and Therapeutics graduate program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. I am in the fourth year of my graduate program and am testing the efficacy of a multiantigen mRNA vaccine to prevent lethal disease associated with herpesvirus infection in young elephants. My background is biomedical research encompassing reproductive biology and translational breast cancer, so I had limited exposure to One Health topics preceding the Rx One Health Field Institute this past summer.

Hi there! My name is Agazi and I am a project manager, lecturer, and One Health (OH) practitioner based in the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda. I hold a medical degree and a masters in global health. I became interested in RxOH as a way of elevating my OH knowledge and experience beyond hospitals and meeting rooms. Often, as I channeled my inner OH orator, I felt a gnawing emptiness regarding real world collaborative approaches. RxOH was the red pill I needed 😋

My name is Natalie Coca. My family immigrated from Bolivia, and I was raised in Burbank, California. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from UCLA. I’m currently a second-year medical student at UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, CA. My professional goal is to become a physician working in areas of global public health, with interests in evaluating environmental health disparities and improving health-care access. To supplement my medical education, I am involved with the Global Health Area of Scholarly Concentration as part of my curriculum.

My name is Celeste Snyder, and I am an Oakridge Institute for Science and Educations (ORISE) research fellow with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) National Animal Disease Center. I work as part of a team investigating dynamics of influenza A virus (IAV) at swine and human interfaces. As I have become involved in topics of zoonosis in agriculture, I had become interested in learning a fuller picture of the meaning of one health.

I am set to start my first year of veterinary school this fall, and I plan to specialize in livestock medicine. My current interests are in public health, preventive veterinary medicine, disaster medicine/ response, and increasing veterinary care access in underserved communities.
