RxOH 2022 Alum: Linda Salekwa

Linda Salekwa, MS, PhD

I've wanted for a while to attend the Rx One Health program, but COVID-19 won't let it until June, 2022. I believed that taking this course would help me advance professionally as a biomedical researcher. When I read the course materials and syllabus on the Rx One Health Institute website, I thought that the course covered most of the things I wanted to learn. Honestly, one of the wonderful news at the start of 2022 was my scholarship and successful selection for this course.

RxOH 2022 Alum: Peter Bowman

Peter Bowman

As a master’s student in the International Agriculture Development program at UC Davis, I’m no stranger to interdisciplinary conversations about pressing global issues. However, these conversations tend to be constrained to policy, agricultural, and environmental expertise and with a definite bias toward social science methods and solutions. Incorporating scientific expertise and perspectives into my work tends to be like a game of academic telephone: trying to translate concepts and potential solutions through a line of simplifications and explanations.

Alumni Statements

Will Swain (2021 participant)

Even though Rx One Health 2021 was only two weeks long, it really is no exaggeration to say it was massively transformative. I was so inspired by the members of my cohort and the range of expertise and experience they brought to every discussion. Everyone was friendly, outgoing, and brilliant, and it was a joy to work on creative solutions to difficult problems or debate on opposite sides of a mock town hall with my peers. It was likewise an amazing opportunity to learn from true leaders and pioneers in One Health, and the program faculty--from guest lecturers to program coordinators--were absolutely awesome.

Ana Hernandez Reyes (2021 participant)

To listen all the instructors about their work in One Health and the advice they gave us was so inspiring and a motivation to not forget my goals and continuing preparing myself.

It has broaden the scope my of knowledge, improve my capacity and stimulated my interest in areas that were relatively new to me such marine life and wildlife conservation as well as the challenges posed by oil spill, its effects, prevention and control. I recommend this exhilarating experience to all professionals but most especially to proponents of ‘One Health’, and those with  great interest in conservation.
